The City of Shamokin is a Third Class City governed by the Third Class
City Code and operates under a commission form of government with a
mayor and four additional council members elected at-large for four-year
terms. The mayor presides over the commission when it acts as the
city council. Every two years the council reorganizes and assigns
its members to one of the city's major departments.
